Facebook group: Killing hookers
(NB. I wrote this post a few hours ago but didn’t immediately post it because I had messaged Brenden Murphy and I wanted to give him a chance to reply to my message. He hasn’t replied to my message but he has been onto Facebook so will have seen it. I know he has been onto Facebook because he has blocked me and removed himself from group admin.)
There are several lovely Facebook groups about killing prostitutes instead of paying them. These groups have been reported many times, have been removed by Facebook eventually, and then recreated.
The particular group ‘Killing your hooker so you dont have to pay her’ [sic] that I have been looking at today has 180 members and they are mostly teenagers. The description of the group reads ‘kill that filthy slut and save your dough’.
Interestingly the creator – Brenden Murphy – has one listed friend that is classified as a ‘work friend’ and funnily enough Brenden’s work friend doesn’t work in a brothel, he works at Pricewaterhouse Cooper, Australia. I have advised Brenden that he should delete this group and have taken a copy of everything on there, including a wonderful wall post by Nigel Pierson which says ‘raping your hooker so you dont have to pay her is better’. Nigel’s school – Mount Olive High School must be so proud of him!
There is a train of thought that thinks these groups are “satirical” and asks “How DARE you attempt to ruin someone’s life, education etc. over a Facebook group”. But if these groups are “satirical” then what effect would it have on an employee or a pupil if their employer or school saw their handiwork on Facebook? Doesn’t everybody laugh at a group called ‘Killing hookers so you dont have to pay her’ [sic]? Doesn’t everybody find the rape of sex workers funny?
Or would it be terrible if this humour wasn’t shared with all the schools, friends and workplaces of those involved – why should they all miss out on a laugh?
Of course, Facebook could have just deleted the group when it was reported as offensive, but they have decided they know better, so it would be even more of a shame if their advertisers were informed of what Facebook finds suitable for it’s social networkers to post on it’s website.
Copied from the group page earlier today:

Needless to say, I do have screen shots.
PS – Please bear in mind that some members on the Facebook group may have joined because they also object to it and are trying to get it removed.
