It’s 22nd Jan 2009 – I’m glad Obama closed Gitmo

January 22, 2010

The words contained in this video are lies.

A year after Obama spoke these fine words, Guantánamo Torture Camp is still open and contains approximately 200 hostages who have never been charged and have been held illegally for up to nine years, since the war of terror was escalated by the US and her allies.

It makes me sick to my stomach to read of extraordinary rendition, of the torture inflicted on these men, and of the murders committed in Guantánamo Torture Camp.  It would still make me sick to my stomach if these men were guilty of anything, but the further injustice is that they aren’t.  Of the approx. 750 hostages abducted by the US three have been found guilty of any charges.  One of being a chauffeur.

Author of The Guantánamo Files Andy Worthingon’s website today carries an interview with Omar Deghayes, who was blinded by a Guantánamo guard who put his fingers deep into Deghayes eye sockets in an attempt to gouge out his eyes as punishment for protesting against continued torture and false imprisonment.  Our government allowed this to happen, our officials were part of the torture.  Deghayes is a UK resident and our government allowed him to be imprisoned and tortured as part of a war of propaganda.  Our government also knew about the torture of another UK resident Binyam Mohammed and allowed this to happen, and are still lying about it.  These are just two of hundreds of similar tales.  Bear this in mind when you hear news from the farce that is known as the Chilcot Enquiry.

And- “Just to add some thick irony to all of this, today is the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s Executive Order to close Guantanamo within one year — an anniversary the administration decided to celebrate not by fulfilling its terms, but instead by announcing that the central feature of Guanatanamo — indefinite detention with no charges — will continue indefinitely.”

Aye, that’s why I wrote the post, chose the title and linked to the video of Obama saying that Gitmo would be closed by today. Lying torturing murdering bastards.
